2007 Exhibits
Dutchess County Fair
The entire exhibit space at the Museum will be dedicated this year to the Dutchess County Fair and Fairgrounds. The exhibit will take a look at various aspects of the fair, including its early beginnings PRIOR TO making Rhinebeck its home. Take a look at the Midway over the years, the well-remembered equine events, 4-H, floral and agricultural exhibits, car races, and the circus life that is part of its charm.
A very special part of the exhibit will show never-before shown photographs of the olden days of the fair as expressed in two private collections that the Museum acquired recently. Snake charmers, acrobatists, mule racers, and high divers are just a few of the cast of characters.
Another part of the fairgrounds’ history is the many uses it has had over the years, particular during the times of World War I and II. Airplane watching, military exercises, and various war-related exhibits will be highlighted. As well, many political figures in local, State, and national politics will be depicted in rare photographs.
Should you have objects to loan for this exhibit PRIOR TO June 8, 2007, please contact exhibit chair Steven Mann at (845) 876-6892, or email smann2@hvc.rr.com as soon as possible. The museum is insured and would give proper recognition to your loan during the exhibit, unless anonymity is preferred.
